| Evolution of HRM |
Human Resource Management (HRM) has evolved over the 20th and 21st centuries yo meet changing organizational needs and societal trends. Human Resource Management (HRM) has changed a lot over time. In the past, it was mainly about keeping employee records and handling basic tasks like payroll. Then, it shifted to focusing more on how to keep employees happy and motivated at work. As businesses grew and became more complex, HRM started playing a bigger role in helping companies achieve their goals. Nowadays, HRM is about much more than just paperwork. It involves things like finding the right people for the job, making sure employees have the skills they need to succeed, and creating a work environment where everyone feels valued and supported. HRM also uses technology and data to make decisions and improve processes. Overall, the evolution of HRM shows how important it is for businesses to manage their people well in order to be successful. (Manashree C, 2019)
1) Welfare Officer - In the 1890's the concept of Human Resource Management (HRM) as we know it today did not exist. Industrialization was in full swing, and companies were primarily focused on maximizing production efficiency rather than addressing employee welfare. During this period, working conditions in factories and industrial settings were oft harsh, with long hours, low wages, and little concern for employee safety or well being. The idea of a dedicated 'welfare officer' within HRM, as we understand it in modern times, was virtually non-existent.
2) Labour Management - In 1914, labour management was about making sure workers did their jobs in factories and other workplaces. It involved overseeing tasks, assigning work, and sometimes dealing with worker complaints. However, conditions for workers were often tough, with long hours and low pay. Labor laws were limited, so employees had few protections.

3) Personal Management - In 1945, personnel management was largely administrative, handling tasks like record-keeping and payroll. It operated within a hierarchical structure, with little emphasis on employee welfare or strategic alignment with organizational goals. The focus was mainly on ensuring compliance with labor laws rather than fostering employee development or contributing strategically to the organization's success.
4) Human Resource Management - In 1980's Human Resource Management changed. It went from mostly doing paperwork to thinking more about the future and how employees could help the company succeed. They started using new computer systems to make HR tasks easier. This was a big change because HRM became more about planning and using technology to manage employees better.
